A new chapter is being added to The Tanjore Tiffin Room with the opening of its first restaurant in Pune at Balewadi High Street. The Tamil cuisine-focused brand is being introduced to the city after establishing its presence in Mumbai and Goa. Authentic home-style Tamil cooking is being presented through recipes inspired by generations of family traditions, while a neighbourhood-style dining experience is being offered to local guests. The expansion is also being marked as a personal milestone by founder Kishore DF, for whom the city represents an important part of his early life.
The Pune restaurant has been developed as a 130-seat venue featuring both indoor dining and an outdoor alfresco section. A traditional South Indian home has been reflected through the use of terracotta shades, heirloom-inspired décor, vintage family photographs, and hand-painted murals celebrating Tamil heritage. The outdoor dining area has been complemented with greenery and illuminated by traditional brass lamps to create a relaxed atmosphere.
The culinary programme has been led by Chef de Cuisine Krish Shah after extensive travel across South India, where traditional recipes were learned directly from home cooks and local families. The menu has been designed to preserve authentic flavours while allowing regional Tamil cuisine to be experienced in a contemporary restaurant setting. Signature offerings have been included in the form of Mini Gunpowder Idlis, Jackfruit Cutlets, Karaikudi Fried Prawns, Padmini's Mutton Cutlet, Madurai Roast Chicken Wings, Pankajam's Lamb Chops, Curry Sampler, Mutton Ghee Roast, Dindigul Biryani served with Salna, and the classic Madras Railway Curry.
A beverage programme has also been developed under the direction of Chief Mixologist Pranav Mody. Regional ingredients have been incorporated into modern cocktail creations such as Thalaiva, Green Latifah, Garden Galata, Gold Member, and Sundance Kid. Traditional non-alcoholic beverages, including Nannari Sharbat and Panakkam, have also been included to complement the food menu.
With its arrival in Pune, The Tanjore Tiffin Room is being positioned as a destination for diners seeking authentic Tamil home cooking in a heritage-inspired environment. Through its combination of regional recipes, carefully curated interiors, and warm hospitality, the restaurant's next phase of growth is being established while a meaningful homecoming for founder Kishore DF is also being celebrated.
