Uppu is being expanded with the opening of a new outlet at Oleander Farms in Karjat, marking the brand's second location after Bandra. Karjat's first dedicated South Indian dining destination is being introduced through the latest launch, according to the company. Authentic regional flavours, traditional recipes and warm hospitality are being brought to the destination where the Ahuja family's hospitality journey first began.
The new restaurant has been established by the team behind Oleander Farms, Saltt Karjat & Microbrewery, Common House and Uppu Bandra. A significant milestone for the brand is being represented by the expansion because the property where the restaurant has opened is regarded as the starting point of the family's hospitality ventures. A deeper connection between the brand's past and future is intended to be reflected through the new location.
The restaurant's philosophy is being represented by the name "Uppu," which means "salt" in several South Indian languages. According to the company, the concept has been developed around the belief that simple meals prepared with care leave lasting memories. Family recipes, regional traditions and the comfort of shared dining have been used as the foundation of the restaurant's identity.
A menu representing the culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka has been created. Traditional cooking methods and authentic ingredients have been retained instead of introducing contemporary reinterpretations of regional classics. The preservation of original flavours has been identified by the company as one of the restaurant's primary objectives.
Breakfast has continued to be positioned as an important part of the dining experience. Freshly brewed filter coffee is being served alongside dosas, idlis, appams and other South Indian favourites. A relaxed atmosphere has been created through the natural surroundings of Oleander Farms, making leisurely meals suitable for both weekend travellers and day visitors.
Aaliya Ahuja, Founder of Uppu, said, "It feels like bringing a piece of home back home." She explained that the inspiration for the restaurant had originated from childhood Sunday breakfasts with her father at a favourite South Indian restaurant. She added that opening Uppu at Oleander Farms had brought the family's hospitality journey back to where it first began.
The latest expansion has been undertaken to strengthen Uppu's presence beyond Mumbai while remaining committed to authentic South Indian cuisine. Traditional recipes, regional diversity and familiar hospitality continue to be placed at the centre of the brand's growth strategy.
