Kahaani has opened in Bengaluru as a progressive Indian vegetarian restaurant inspired by India's historic culinary movement across global trade and migration routes. Founded by Haresh Mirpuri and Somshekhar Mirpuri, with the culinary programme led by Chef Sibin Lal, the restaurant presents a contemporary menu that connects Indian ingredients, flavours and cooking techniques with food traditions across the world.
Built around the idea of "travelled Indian stories", the concept explores how Indian culinary traditions influenced global cuisines long before fusion dining became popular. According to the founders, the restaurant has been created to celebrate India's culinary heritage while presenting it through a modern vegetarian dining experience that reflects centuries of cultural exchange.
The menu was developed following Chef Sibin Lal's research across Indonesia, where he studied the historical and cultural links between Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines. He said the dishes were shaped by an understanding of people, traditions and shared food cultures rather than recipes alone.
The restaurant's origins are also linked to a personal experience of co-founder Haresh Mirpuri during the Jakarta riots in 1998, when he was escorted to safety after being recognised as Indian. The incident prompted him to further explore India's longstanding culinary connections with Southeast Asia, which eventually became the foundation of Kahaani's concept.
The menu features dishes including Vada Pav Pita, Paneer Ghee Roast Pita, Banana Galouti Kebab and Lotus Stem & Burrata Chaat, showcasing the restaurant's interpretation of India's global culinary journey through a contemporary vegetarian dining experience.
