Toast House, a new bread-focused café founded by Akshay Karal, has opened in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, bringing a menu inspired by the bakery and sandwich cultures of Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. With house-made Japanese shokupan at the centre of its offerings, the café introduces a selection of savoury sandos, fresh fruit sandwiches and dessert French toasts.
Built around the idea of making bread the highlight of every meal, Toast House places emphasis on preparation, texture and flavour. Its signature shokupan, recognised for its soft, pillowy texture and subtle sweetness, is freshly prepared in-house and used across the menu. Asian culinary influences are brought together with contemporary ingredients to create familiar dishes with distinctive flavour combinations.
The savoury selection includes the Tamago Sando with Japanese egg salad and togarashi, Chicken Katsu Sando with panko-fried chicken and green apple slaw, Smashed Buff Sando with a double patty and soya mayonnaise, and Eggplant Sando with grilled eggplant, purple cabbage slaw and curry-leaf mayonnaise. Japanese-style fruit sandos feature mango, strawberry and seasonal fruits paired with sweetened whipped cream, while the French toast selection includes burnt caramel with Manam 60% dark chocolate ganache, hazelnut and milk chocolate, and classic vanilla ice cream.
The menu is complemented by garlic bread with chilli oil, crispy tofu with soy-chilli dip and salads, alongside beverages such as House Lemonade with basil, Coffee Lemonade and House Ginger Ale made using a house-fermented ginger bug. Speaking about the concept, Akshay Karal, Founder of Toast House, said, "We built this space to give bread the attention it deserves."
Designed with a youthful, contemporary aesthetic, Toast House offers an informal dining experience with an evolving menu inspired by Asian bread traditions. The launch also marks Karal's entry into hospitality following a 13-year career in SaaS marketing and nearly 25 years of living in Bengaluru.
